Few of today’s brands stand out for both their commitment to quality and community quite like WoJo Co. Founded by Tyler Wejrowski, WoJo Co. began as a personal endeavor driven by his own personal passion, but it quickly evolved into a trailblazing company known for its innovative approach to cultivation and concentrates.

From its humble beginnings in a Michigan basement to a fully operational, state-of-the-art facility, WoJo Co. has remained true to its roots—prioritizing natural methods, cutting-edge technology, and a culture of care that extends from its team to its loyal customers. Wojo Co. has built a reputation for freshness and quality that resonates throughout Michigan and beyond. This is the story behind the brand that’s making waves in cannabis, one innovation at a time.

The start of Wojo Co.

In 2010, Wejrowski began cultivating cannabis for himself and close friends right out of his basement. What started as a hobby soon grew into a dedicated pursuit—one that would later transform into WoJo Co.

“Around 2016, I got really interested in genetics and finding the variety among different strains,” Wejrowski said. “From there, I started to make the shift more toward concentrates. I saw that a lot of states were trying it, and BHO was getting big in Michigan, but solventless wasn’t being done on a commercial scale, or across the country, really.”

This focus would become WoJo Co.’s signature. Wejrowski’s interest took him from local grows in Michigan to training sessions with leading hash makers in Colorado, where he refined his craft in solventless extracts.

“Fast forward another year, I wanted to learn how to make my own hash. I bought a press, but I knew there was more I needed to understand before I could get started. I’d say I had to ‘go to college’ for it in a sense—I knew I was missing those little details to make the best product I possibly could,” Wejrowski said.

“I saw a hash maker I’d been following on Instagram post that he was teaching a class in Las Vegas in five days, and I was like, ‘I’m going to book this class.’ So I got a flight and a hotel, flew out, and took the class. And I was right—all those little minute details that mattered but I didn’t know, he taught. I took extremely good notes and the first thing I did when I got back was buy some seeds.”

A few months later, these new plants were getting ready to harvest. The team cut them down, washed them, and entered some products into the High Times competition. Two weeks later, award time rolled around, and Wojo Co. won.

“That really catapulted us. We were like, ‘Holy cow, people really like what we’re putting out. Let’s take this to the next level,’” Wejrowski said.

From there, the team focused on finding a different variety of genetics than what everyone else was doing. They bought a ton of seeds, popped them all, and washed everything separately so they knew, out of ten seeds, which one was way more flavorful, or which one had a super gassy profile.

“Popping seeds is like having kids—they can have similar traits, but they’re not identical,” Wejrowski said. “And then, one might be your Lebron James of seeds, and another might not be as good. So we learned a lot throughout that year, and just got out into the market as much as we could.”

This careful consideration was definitely for good reason. In 2019, Wojo Co. won second place at High Times for Best Non-Solvent Extract, and third place for Best Product.

A commitment to quality and culture

Throughout its continued growth, WoJo Co. has remained true to its core values of high-quality cannabis and tight-knit community, and Wejrowski is most passionate about maintaining a positive culture for his team.

“Outside of making good product, that was one of my biggest goals. I want people to love coming to work every day,” Wejrowski said. This dedication to fostering a supportive and friendly work environment has been crucial as the team expanded from 12 to over 50 employees.

“From those High Times wins, we just kept snowballing, but I’ve always envisioned our company as family friends. We want to be on that cusp of being tried and true and creating new tech so we’re changing and innovating things as we go,” Wejrowski said. “It’s super cool to see our team in the facility now. We have so many great people, and that’s what I love so much about it—the culture we’ve created.”

The Wojo Co. team built their facility from the ground up, collaborating closely with the architects and builders to make sure they can troubleshoot as much as possible on their own. The result? A close-knit team that takes pride in every step, from cultivation to packaging.

Natural processes and innovation

WoJo Co. has embraced some unique practices to ensure the purity and quality of their products, and the one they’re most proud of is their complete lack of pesticide or fungicide use.

“One of my favorite things to tell people is that we’ve never sprayed a single pesticide, fungicide, or anything like that on any of our plants. We use beneficial bugs to battle any pest problem we would have, so we definitely go the most natural way possible,” Wejrowski said.

“So many people are dousing their plants with the stuff every day of the week, but I can confidently say we never have and never will. Also, in our processing, most extractors use ice or water to extract. We only use water, so 99.9 percent of the impurities are all taken out. It’s awesome to know we don’t use ice machines, which are way more prone to developing black mold; they’re breeding grounds for that.”

As WoJo Co. looks to the future, the team’s vision includes expanding their grow space and opening dispensaries across Michigan, with the goal of controlling every aspect of the customer experience from cultivation to the final sale.

“We’re a vertical company, so we operate from seed to sale, but we want to go even further and ensure the product is stored correctly and that customers have access to a knowledgeable team,” Wejrowski said.

WoJo Co. also has plans to bring cannabis enthusiasts together through hash events, celebrating the art of hash-making and providing a fun, communal experience. With an eye toward federal legalization, WoJoCo hopes to expand operations outside Michigan, bringing its top-tier products to a broader market.
